Facilities

The NCSU phonetics lab is outfitted with equipment for the collection and analysis of articulatory, acoustic, and perceptual data. Three sound-attenuated booths are used to carry out perceptual experiments using Presentation and Praat MFC software.

Terason t3000 ultrasound machine with Ultraspeech ultrasound audio, video, and ultrasound imaging software is used for the collection of articulatory data. The Palatoglossotron Windows application, a combination of Palatron and Glossotron algorithms, is used for ultrasound image processing.

EG2-PCX electroglottograph used for measuring how much electricity flows across the larynx.

PCquirer airflow machine for measuring speech aerodynamics including nasal and oral airflow and pressure.
